Keukenhof from Amsterdam: The Complete Luggage-Free Day Trip Guide (2026)

Keukenhof is one of Europe's great day trips from Amsterdam — but only if you're not hauling a suitcase. Here's how to get there, what it costs, and how to do it completely hands-free.

For seven weeks every spring, Keukenhof transforms a corner of South Holland into one of the most photographed places on earth. Seven million bulbs. Thirty-two hectares of garden. Tulips in every colour you didn't know tulips could be. If you're in Amsterdam between late March and mid-May and you don't go, you'll regret it.

But there's a catch. Keukenhof is a garden — meaning no lockers, no luggage storage, and no interest in watching over your 23-kilogram roller bag while you wander through the tulip fields. If you arrive from Schiphol or Centraal and want to head straight to the flowers, you need a plan for your bags. This guide covers both: how to get to Keukenhof and how to do it without dragging your luggage along for the ride.

When Keukenhof Is Open (2026)

Keukenhof is open from March 19 to May 10, 2026, daily from 08:00 to 19:30. That's a tight window — it does not extend past mid-May no matter how warm the spring is. If you're visiting Amsterdam in April, this is non-negotiable. Go.

Peak bloom for tulips typically falls in mid-April. Hyacinths and narcissus peak slightly earlier (late March to early April). If you have flexibility, the last week of March and the first two weeks of April tend to offer the most spectacular display.
